The Purbeck Collective
A group exhibition in Durlston Castle
25th November - 15th December
Open 11-4 daily
Early this year the Purbeck Collective was formed to promote and showcase the talents of a group of artists based in Purbeck. The collective comprises painters, sculptors, photographers and craftspeople all producing work that reflects and celebrates the unique qualities of this area. With its World Heritage coastline, unspoilt heaths and woodland, archaeological and geological treasures, Purbeck’s rich elemental palette inspires, enthuses, provokes us to create.
Our show in Durlston is appropriately named “Beginnings“, as not only is this the Newly fledged Collective’s first show as a group, but also it is the first exhibition to be hosted in Durlston’s purpose-built gallery since its Heritage Lottery funded refit. Durlston Castle has been renovated and enhanced to offer a world-class interpretation and study centre for the Jurassic Coast and the natural heritage at Purbeck. The Fine Foundation Gallery is a fantastic space for exhibiting as well as appreciating the beauty of the surroundings and we are thrilled to be offered the opening slot in this prestigious venue.
From timeless and classic carved stoneware to fine art watercolours, unique photographic records, exquisite seascape embroideries and surreal imagined landscapes, Beginnings will present viewers with fresh perspectives and insights about our environment and landscape. Works, prints and postcards will be on sale to the public. Crafts will be on sale in the shop area.
